Culinary Program

One of our greatest success stories at One Step Beyond is our Culinary Training Program, which gives our participants the tools to not only take care of themselves, but also access new work opportunities.  The curriculum includes life skills-oriented courses intended for home kitchen management, as well as more advanced proficiencies useful for a commercial setting. Our culinary graduates move ahead with essential skills in customer service, cooking, and kitchen management that will serve them throughout their lives.

Our culinary education is an involved process with clear benchmarks along curriculum blocks such as safety and sanitation, healthy food choices/recipes, methods of cooking, customer service, and kitchen discovery. We offer graduates further  employment opportunities in the One Step Beyond Catering Company and Group Supported Employment, allowing our participants to earn additional job skill training and experience in the food service industry.

The OSBI Culinary team has successfully catered large-scale events for groups such as the Arizona Department of Economic Security, the Peoria Chamber of Commerce, and other community groups. Feedback on service has been universally positive, crediting the training and professionalism exhibited by OSBI participants.

The Culinary Program offers a curriculum that teaches participants basic cooking skills needed for independent living.  Those who exhibit an interest in expanding their skills continue to progress into more advanced training to master the skills necessary to be employed in the culinary industry.
