Performing Arts Programs

Performance Art represents a valuable means of expression and participation for all members of the community. While arts opportunities can be difficult to access for individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, the participants of One Step Beyond enjoy a busy day that includes:

A Dance Program, supported by the Molly Lawson Foundation and Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority.  Opportunities include weekly dance classes, yoga, group fitness classes, karate, and cheer (beginning Fall 2015).  This program also offers performance opportunities at our annual dance recital and at various community and sporting events throughout the year.

We have an Art and Ceramics Studio, supported by the Arizona Commission on the Arts, complete with access to a professional kiln. Class opportunities include drawing, painting, pottery, and crafts, with exhibitions year-round at various galleries throughout the Phoenix area. Students are also invited to showcase their art at our yearly art show.

A fully equipped music studio with daily classes in voice and instrument training, as well as music production. All classes are taught by Music Program Coordinator, Jared Woosley, a seasoned musician who performed worldwide as lead singer for Fivespeed. Performance opportunities are offered at the annual One Step Beyond Music Festival, held annually in the Spring. For dates and additional information on upcoming performances from our Music Program, visit their webpage HERE

There are seasonal drama classes and performance opportunities. Through a partnership with Theater Works and the City of Peoria we are able to offer a joint theater program for adults with and without disabilities, all participants are able to experience a truly inclusive recreation opportunity.
