Hey everyone! Jared Woosley here and I just want to share something with you that I have been working on. It's called the Abilities United Music Festival and it is going to be awesome!
For those of you that don't know, the annual Music Festival is a combination of all the One Step Beyond, Inc. (OSBI) band classes, throughout the years, coming together for a performance. The Festival is a spotlight for all of our participants, and really helps as OSBI pursues a larger presence within our community. All of the participants’ talents and abilities shine through as they play in their biggest performance of the year. Music is a valuable and researched way for individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) to express themselves and improve self-esteem. The popularity of the upcoming event acts as a catalyst that launches their music to another level.
This is our 4th annual Music festival and this one is going to be a game changer. Our Music Program has gotten to a point where I truly feel that we need to push this into the community and, eventually, the world. I love music I am either playing it or listening to it and it brings me so much joy! Especially when I get to work with these amazing artists. We are so grateful to everyone that has been involved -- from the music sponsors to the local bands that have been showing their support. People have really started to link hands and hearts, and it is inspiring. The fact that people understand what we are doing and then are trying to propel it to another level truly humbles me. This is something that is going to grow and change the way we look at music forever. We have been doing the legwork to spread awareness about the Music festival and what OSBI does locally and nationally. None of this would be possible without the involvement of our community and friends. Thank you so much. We’ve had people give us gear out of the kindness of their hearts, people volunteering their time to help us in so many different capacities, and people simply caring on a level we have never experienced before. People in the Valley really care about what is going on and what we are doing. People are really starting to get involved and I love it.
So, I can say I am especially excited this year with all of the great things that we are going to be able to provide to both our bands and our viewers! It is going to be a performance of epic proportions! It is going to be a revolution!
